Overview

The PRN Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides both direct and indirect nursing care to patients requiring emergency medical services. This role requires a thorough understanding of departmental and hospital policies related to the delivery of emergency care ensuring safe timely and effective treatment. Strong interpretive criticalthinking and problemsolving skills are essential as the position involves frequent interaction collaboration and consultation with patients families physicians and interdisciplinary team members.

This PRN role includes a commitment of one shift biweekly one weekend per month and coverage of one summer holiday and one winter holiday supporting the dynamic needs of the Emergency Department while maintaining scheduling flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Assessment & Prioritization
• Performs accurate and thorough patient assessments to determine clinical needs and prioritize care appropriately.
• Conducts risk assessments to identify potential complications and initiates timely interventions.
• Specimen Collection & Processing
• Collects correct and adequate blood and urine specimens as ordered by physicians following proper techniques and safety procedures.
• Accurately labels specimens and completes all required processing steps to ensure integrity and traceability.
• Ensures appropriate and timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory coordinating courier transport or outsideagency pickup when required.
• Documentation & Communication
• Maintains clear complete and timely documentation in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
• Communicates effectively with patients families and interdisciplinary team members to support safe and coordinated care.
• Clinical ProblemSolving
• Applies strong problemsolving skills to evaluate situations identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fastpaced environment.
• Equipment Operation & Skill Proficiency
• Operates clinical equipment safely and competently ensuring proper function and reporting malfunctions promptly.
• Maintains proficiency in required clinical procedures and adheres to established standards of practice.
• Medication Safety
• Demonstrates safe medication practices including accurate administration monitoring and adherence to all medication safety protocols.

• Works collaboratively within the healthcare team promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of Emergency Department or Critical Care experience required.
• Ability to perform CPR in accordance with current clinical standards.
• Completion of Baby Friendly Education within 6 months of hire.
• PALS certification required within 6 months of hire.
• TNCC certification required within 1 year of hire.
• EPIC Preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
