Physician - Sleep Medicine - Neurology - (Stockton)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requires meeting specific VHA policy criteria and submission of an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts up to $200,000 and an eligibility period of one to five years are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Work Schedule Full‑time; Monday to Friday; 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Recruitment Incentive Authorized sign‑on bonus. Duties Sleep Medicine physicians diagnose, treat, and manage patients with sleep disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, REM behavior disorder, periodic limb movement disorder, and others. Responsibilities include prescribing and managing medications, prescribing initial and adjusting positive airway pressure (PAP) settings, evaluating and managing all PAP modalities, and evaluating patients for non‑PAP alternative treatments. Physicians interpret sleep studies and oximetry, provide telemedicine services via video and telephone, and work collaboratively with sleep care teams and other disciplines such as pulmonary, otolaryngology, dental, psychology, psychiatry, and biomedical engineering. Telemedicine‑based inpatient sleep consultation and neurology on‑call consultation‑only service are required. Susceptible to urinalysis for illegal drug use before appointment; refusal results in denial. Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Qualifications Basic requirements: United States citizenship (or eligibility as described above). Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited U.S. or eligible foreign institution. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional requirements: Board certification in Sleep Medicine. Preferred experience: Board certification in both Sleep Medicine and Neurology. Physical Requirements Requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, and push for potentially long periods. Transfer of patients and objects may be required. Exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials may occur, requiring protective clothing. Possibility of encountering combative patients due to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Must complete annual employee health requirements such as TB screening. Education Medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year the degree was granted. Osteopathic medical schools approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year the degree was granted. Foreign medical graduates: confirmation that the medical school meets or met ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year graduated.
