Van Driver

A vacancy exists for a Van Driver to work within the Office of Business Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Van Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for students on routes as directed throughout Montgomery County, PA.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid PA Drivers' License
• Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
• Knowledge of safety regulations
• Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned
• Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operating a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations
• Following safety regulations and traffic laws
• Maintaining student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies
• Mapping out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS
• Performing all pre and post trip vehicle inspections
• Following routes as directed by Program Administrator Operations
• Maintaining route log and completing monthly mileage logs
• Completing transportation access logs
• Communicating with student's parent/guardian about assigned route
• Keeping van clean and fueled
• Communicating repair needs to transportation office when needed
• Assisting children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.), and/or handling/securing wheelchairs
• Maintaining professional interactions with all stakeholders
• Reporting all accidents and completing required reports
• Assisting with any emergency as called upon
• Attending all required training as assigned by the Supervisor
• Immediately notifying Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed
• Performing clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports
• Coordinating and managing routes as needed
• Presenting a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services
• Providing additional student and/or classroom support as needed
• Performing other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator

Location: The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located at 2 West Lafayette Street, Norristown, PA 19401. This position requires travel to locations throughout Montgomery County, PA.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 194 days/year, Part-Time or Full-Time Part-time schedule: 4-6 hours/day (morning, mid-day, and afternoon routes) Full-time schedule: 7.5 hours/day (full-time Van Drivers may be required to spend a portion of their day in a classroom, supporting our student facing programs)

Hourly Rate: Starting at $24.04/hour
