Phlebotomist

Location: Austin, TX (float position across the Austin area) | Schedule: Full-time contract, M-F 8am to 5 pm, with occasional availability needed for other daytime hours Overview A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract role with potential for perm placement. This float role supports multiple locations across the Austin, TX area and plays a key part in ensuring accurate, safe, and courteous specimen collection for patient care. The projected duration is 3 months, with potential for perm conversion. What you'll do Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities Collect and store specimens according to established procedures Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles Fully understand and follow physicians' orders Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy Package specimens for transport Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, and accurately label and handle them per protocol to maintain specimen integrity during transport Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations Attend annual department trainings Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations Update patient information as needed Required qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting Minimum of 1 year of experience Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite High School Diploma or GED Clean driving record and reliable transportation Compensation and benefits Benefits are available Mileage expenses paid Why this role This contract position, with a projected duration of 3 months and potential for perm placement, offers mileage reimbursement and access to benefits while working across multiple locations in the Austin area. #J-18808-Ljbffr
