Summary The Kansas City VA Medical Center - Diagnostic Imaging Service is seeking a full-time Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) for the VA Medical Center in Kansas City MO. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology – Radiography (ARRT) (R) Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT) – magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – or mammography (M) duties performed independently as applicable Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination In modalities that require advanced certification, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on‑the‑job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist Education: Completion of a full‑time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post‑high school diagnostic radiologic technology program – evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree – accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or other recognized accrediting agencies English Language Proficiency: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) – and 7407(d) Grandfathering Provision: May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees) Creditable Experience: At least one year of active practice in current radiologic technology practice, including knowledge, skills, and competencies demonstrated in a professional environment Duties Perform Computed Tomography (CT) examinations in the Radiology Service and provide on‑call coverage as necessary Maintain current advanced registry in CT and operate a multislice and spiral CT scanner, including performing difficult imaging procedures and 3D reconstructions Prepare patients for scanning, including conducting verbal interviews for demographic accuracy, patient education, and safety assessment Set protocols and parameters for each individualized patient examination prior to acquisition Monitor patients throughout each phase of the examination, assist as required, and administer contrast media and medications under the direction of a radiologist Record patient and procedure details in the KanVista System‑Radiology Package and ensure completions are properly edited and archived in PACS Adhere to all radiation safety guidelines and report any issues to the appropriate party Supply and maintain sterile materials, catheters, guided wires, contrast media, and other consumables needed for the procedure Perform all other duties common to the Radiology Service as assigned by the supervisor and/or Chief Technologist – Radiology Service Use appropriate CPT codes and perform timely, accurate case editing with corresponding billing codes Compensation and Benefits Full‑time schedule: Thursday & Friday 7:30 am‑4:00 pm & Saturday & Sunday 7:00 am‑7:00 pm Competitive salary with regular salary increases Paid time off: 37‑50 days of annual paid time, including 13‑26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid federal holidays per year Parental leave: After 12 months of employment – up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for birth, adoption, or foster care placement Child care subsidy: After 60 days of employment – full‑time employees with a total family income below 144,000 may be eligible for a subsidy up to 25% of caregiving costs up to a monthly maximum of 416.66 Retirement: Traditional federal pension (requires 5 years of vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available; this is not a virtual position #J-18808-Ljbffr Direct Jobs
