This position is home-based within the U.S. with regular travel to manufacturing facilities.As Georgia-Pacific deploys increasingly advanced reel, winder, and roll handling platforms, this role will help build the internal controls capability needed to troubleshoot, improve, and sustain these systems after startup. The engineer will work directly with site Operations, Process Control, E&I, and other technical resources while converting field learnings into improved diagnostics, documentation, standards, and feedback for future installations.Travel is required up to 50%, depending on site needs, outage windows, startup activity, and troubleshooting or optimization needs. The ideal candidate would be based in Atlanta, Green Bay or the Southeast. What You Will DoProvide hands-on controls troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for reel, winder, roll handling, and related paper finishing systems in partnership with site operations, process control, E&I, and maintenance teamsRead, troubleshoot, modify, and validate PLC/HMI control strategies, including sequencing, permissives, interlocks, speed coordination, drives, motion control, fault handling, and machine diagnosticsTroubleshoot and improve controls integration between reel, winder, roll handling, and associated upstream or downstream equipment to support simplified machine operationSupport startup, stabilization, and post-startup improvement of new or upgraded finishing systems, with emphasis on operational readiness and transition to long-term site supportWork with OEMs, project teams, and GP technical resources to identify recurring controls issues and convert field learnings into practical improvements for future system designs and installationsMaintain controls documentation, program backups, functional descriptions, troubleshooting guides, and other information needed to support and sustain installed systemsDevelop and share repeatable controls practices, standards, and technical knowledge that strengthen site-level capability across GP facilitiesWho You Are (Basic Qualifications)Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience will also be consideredFive (5) or more years of hands-on experience supporting industrial control systems in a manufacturing environmentDemonstrated experience troubleshooting, configuring, and modifying Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systemsExperience troubleshooting integrated machine control systems involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, field devices, and industrial networksExperience implementing and validating control system changes on operating manufacturing equipment in partnership with operations and maintenance teamsWorking knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and the ability to interpret basic pneumatic and hydraulic schematicsAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics, control documentation, functional descriptions, and technical drawingsStrong troubleshooting skills and demonstrated ability to work through complex equipment and controls problems to determine root causeStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across operations, maintenance, engineering, OEM, and technical teamsAbility and willingness to travel up to 50% to support manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S.Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. for any employer without requiring visa sponsorshipWhat Will Put You AheadExperience supporting paper machine dry-end operations, including reels, winders, roll handling systems, and related material-handling equipmentStrong understanding of machine control behavior including sequencing, permissives, interlocks, speed coordination, stop/start logic, fault handling, and machine recoveryExperience with servo systems, coordinated motion control, and advanced drive-based machine applicationsExperience with PID control, closed-loop control strategies, and tuning in industrial machine applicationsExperience with Siemens PLC and HMI platformsExperience configuring and troubleshooting machine safety systems, including Rockwell safety controllers, safety routines and I/O, guard systems, safety interlocks, and functional safety conceptsExperience developing first-out diagnostics, alarming strategies, permissive/interlock visibility, and other troubleshooting tools for operators and maintenance teamsExperience supporting startup, commissioning, stabilization, and long-term sustainment of new or upgraded manufacturing equipmentExperience developing and maintaining controls standards, functional descriptions, program backups, troubleshooting documentation, and other technical informationDemonstrated experience mentoring engineers or technicians through controls troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, or equipment supportHiring PhilosophyAll Koch companies value diversity of thought, perspectives, aptitudes, experiences, and backgrounds.
