About the Position

Job Title: RN II - Emergency Department Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 11 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: One year in acute care preferred License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 6 months of hire or transfer Must-Have: Experience in emergency medicine and critical care Competence in routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy, and patient monitoring Description: The position involves providing nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, from newborns to geriatrics. The nurse will complete accurate triage assessments on all patients. All abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs must be reported to the Emergency Physician 100% of the time. Timely review and completion of patient orders is essential. Medication side effects teaching must be provided to all patients who receive medication in the Emergency Department, and this teaching must be included in discharge instructions. The nurse should recognize the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other emergencies 100% of the time. Appropriate nursing interventions must be provided in both stable and emergent patient situations. The position requires competency in all routine nursing skills, including medication administration and maintenance of medical equipment used in critical care. Accurate interpretation of ECG rhythms and management of patients during life-threatening emergencies is expected. Knowledge of lead functions and appropriate monitoring recommendations based on patient presentations is necessary. The nurse must demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skill in responding to Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations. Completion of legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided is required. Safety and quality control checks must be consistently performed. The position involves facilitating safe and timely coordination and collaboration with inpatient units when admitting patients from the Emergency Department.
