Job Overview Psych Registered Nurse East Geri Unit at Mission Health will provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric and medical nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on an inpatient behavioral health unit. Based in Asheville, NC, Mission Health is a comprehensive healthcare provider dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the community through advanced medical services and compassionate care. In this role, the nurse will deliver safe, patient-centered care to older adults experiencing acute psychiatric conditions, cognitive disorders, and co‑occurring medical needs, while supporting their families and caregivers. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with psychiatrists, hospitalists, therapists, social workers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, and closely monitor patients for changes in mental status, behavior, and physical condition. Administer medications, including psychotropics, per provider orders; perform accurate medication reconciliation; provide patient and family education on medications, treatment plans, and coping strategies; and use de‑escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. Ensure adherence to all regulatory, safety, and infection-control standards, document thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record, and participate actively in treatment team meetings, discharge planning, and coordination of follow-up services. Qualifications This position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build therapeutic relationships with geriatric patients who may have dementia, delirium, mood disorders, psychosis, or behavioral disturbances. Collaborate closely with nursing assistants and other support staff, delegate tasks appropriately, and mentor newer team members while contributing to a culture of respect, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
