Building Nurse LPN/RN

The purpose of this position is to deliver health services in a school building. The building nurse will treat students for medical issues, help prevent physical issues and disease, and coordinate routine health assessments.

Essential functions include working collaboratively with health care providers, students, parents, district nurse, school district staff, and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students. The building nurse will assist in the maintenance of a comprehensive school health program. They will perform nursing assessment for students who are ill or injured and provide first aid, nursing care, intervention, referrals, and exclusions and readmission of students in connection with certain infectious and contagious diseases for those students. They will maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies. The building nurse will perform the interventions described in individual health care plans (ICHP) and report to parents, district nurse, principal, healthcare providers, and others as needed to meet student health needs. They will provide health education to students as requested.

Warrior Early Learning Center only: participates in the Early Childhood Screening process. Notifies and takes direction from the district nurse regarding student injury and illness that must be reported to other agencies in accordance with Board policy as necessary. Uses medical equipment to provide health care to students/staff, including, but not limited to, blood glucose monitor, stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, audiometers. Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements set forth in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations. Implements Board Policy regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students. Prompt and reliable attendance.

Other responsibilities include performing other related tasks as assigned by district nurse, building principal, or other administrators. Participating in employer mandated training and retraining programs.
