Field Construction Manager – Marine ConstructionCajun Industries — Marine ConstructionCajun Industries is looking for a Field Construction Manager (FCM) to serve as an extension of the Senior Construction Manager across inland marine construction work — deployed over a defined region or a specific mega-project. The FCM oversees multiple projects and the Site Managers running them, driving execution strategy, safety, and quality at a portfolio level while making sure each site has what it needs to succeed. You'll report to the Senior Construction Manager and play a key role in developing the next generation of site leadership across the Business Unit.ResponsibilitiesThe following are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position:Provide oversight of field operations across the Business Unit — a defined region or a specific mega-project — spanning multiple inland marine construction sitesDirect and supervise Site Managers and field supervisory staff across assigned projectsPromote and audit jobsite safety practices, checklists, and hazard recognition programs across all sites; partner with Business Unit safety leadership to ensure SOPs and control measures are effectiveUnderstand basic computer and software skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Cajun's project management systems)Coach and mentor Site Managers, and — through them — the Superintendents and site leadership beneathIdentify and develop future leaders; grow Foremen and General Foremen toward supervisory rolesMaintain strong working knowledge of relevant construction disciplines — marine and civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation, lifting and rigging, and deep foundations/pile drivingPartner with estimating during the estimate review process to shape execution strategy and field staffing plansWrite and present project-specific Construction Execution Strategies; plan and sequence work across multiple sitesParticipate in project schedule development from mobilization through turnover, and monitor schedule performance across the portfolioUnderstand and monitor manpower curves, job cost detail, and productivity/earned value metrics across projectsUnderstand contract terms — clarifications, liquidated damages, and related risk factors — as they affect executionCoordinate manpower, equipment, and materials across projects and, where needed, across other Business UnitsEnsure Site Managers have the tools, equipment, materials, and manpower needed to meet job requirementsReview cost reports, schedules, and turnover packages with Site Managers and Superintendents during site visitsGrow and maintain strong client relationships across projectsFacilitate Superintendent meetings; participate in safety committee and incident review discussionsMaintain a daily log of pertinent activities, conversations, and decisionsExperience/Education• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered• 10+ years of progressive experience in marine, heavy civil, or industrial construction, including experience as a Site Manager or in a similar multi-project leadership role• Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple Site Managers, projects, or a large-scale (mega) project• Strong working knowledge of estimate review, Construction Execution Strategy (CES) development, and project controls (earned value, productivity, cost reporting)• Working knowledge of pile driving operations, marine equipment, and waterway/dock construction methods, along with broader construction disciplines• Valid driver's license required; ability to travel across an assigned region or between project sites as neededPhysical• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.• Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions• Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work• Will operate office equipment of all types• Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds, barges, and marine vessels• Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects on a frequent basis• Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing, and lifting• Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, floating and fixed marine platforms, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator• Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, docks, and other waterfront surfaces• Must be able to work over and around water, including transport to job sites by boat or barge, and wear required marine PPE (e.g., personal flotation device)• Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, etc.)• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus• Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed; frequent travel between project sites within assigned regionMental• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with executive management, Site Managers, field workers, and clients• Talking and reading/writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy• Ability to use math/complete calculations, including budget, cost, and productivity analysis across multiple projects• Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions• Strong decision-making skills necessary, including strategic judgment calls across schedule, cost, safety, and client priorities at a multi-project or regional scale• Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details across a portfolio of projects• Requires strong leadership and motivational skills, with the ability to mentor Site Managers and build a bench of future site leadership
