Description: The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies. This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. The ER RN assesses, delegates, coordinates, and evaluates the nursing care provided. This position ensures the provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through the utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to them. Essential Job Functions: Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms. Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended to first. Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Perform emergency procedures like wound care and splinting. Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and response to treatments, adjusting interventions as needed. Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff. Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records or paper charts as required. Provide patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions. Respond to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention. Ensure that the patient's rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care. Follow all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggest improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes. Ability to work under pressure and in high-stress situations. Knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols. Ability to handle a diverse patient population and varying levels of acuity. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds or use prosthetic assistance. Express or exchange ideas through spoken word. Perceive characteristics of objects visually. Extend arms and hands in any direction. Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands. Pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers. Lift a maximum of 50 pounds with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing are required. Capable of working long shifts, often 12 hours, sometimes in high-stress demanding situations. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Working Conditions: Work in an inside environment, protected from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels in a rapid-paced, unpredictable environment with multiple stimuli and critical situations. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate 24/7.
