Job Description

Hours: 24 hrs per week

Shift: Midnights 

Ready to dive into the fascinating world of tissue analysis? As a Histotechnologist, you'll be the skilled professional behind the microscope, preparing tissue specimens that help physicians unlock the secrets of how our bodies work. You'll mix up dyes and chemical solutions, master the art of frozen section processing, and become an essential part of the diagnostic team. Working under general supervision and following established procedures, you'll transform tissue samples into the critical information doctors need to understand disease progression and tissue function. • Prepare and process tissue specimens with precision and care to enable accurate microscopic evaluation by physicians
• Mix, prepare, and maintain dyes and chemical solutions following established protocols and safety standards
• Process frozen sections efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards
• Execute histologic staining procedures and bone marrow specimen processing with expertise and attention to detail
• Collaborate with laboratory team members and physicians to ensure seamless workflow and optimal results
• Perform related duties and special projects as needed to support the laboratory's mission
• Maintain meticulous records and documentation of all specimens and procedures
• Stay current with best practices and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in the lab

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Completion of accredited bachelor's degree program in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science, and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program
  • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, AND 1 year of full time acceptable clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory or 1 year research experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S. or Canada
  • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, and HT(ASCP) certification, with 6 months full time acceptable clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory or 6 months full time research experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S. or Canada
  • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training course.
• At least one (1) year of supervised training in a clinical laboratory in histologic techniques to perform tissue staining procedures and the processing of bone marrow specimens preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a histotechnologist, preferred.
