Bus Driver - Special Needs Bus Driver for transporting students on scheduled routes and special excursions, ensuring vehicle operation and student safety. Position Details Position Length : 9 Month Job Grade : 111 Hourly Rate : $18.82 Hours Per Day : 5 Closing Date : 06/04/2027 Responsibilities Advises students, supervisors and passengers of behavior requirements for safety. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents or potential emergencies for resolution. Assists students and supervisors with safe ingress and egress from buses including emergency evacuations. Attends safety meetings and trainings relating to state and district requirements. Cleans assigned vehicles, interior and exterior, to maintain appearance, sanitation and safety. Communicates with students, supervisors, parents, staff, police, etc. to provide or acquire information. Conducts semi‑annual emergency drills to ensure readiness. Drives school vehicles (buses, vans, etc.) on scheduled routes and excursions. Inspects vehicles pre‑ and post‑trip to ensure safe operating condition and meet state requirements. Monitors bus operations, route conditions and rider activities for safety. Prepares reports and documents (incident reports, student counts, daily mileage, etc.) for safety, legal and maintenance purposes. Other Functions Assists other personnel in completing their work activities. Job Requirements Mental Requirements Learning Development – Level C: sufficient to read/write technical instructions and operate equipment. Problem Solving – Level 1: routine work situations requiring attention and concentration. Physical Requirements Physical Skill – Level A: basic learned physical skill for normal mobility. Physical Effort – Level 2: light effort including standing, walking, light lifting. Social Requirements Human Relations Skill – Level A: ordinary conversational skills and courtesy. Scope of Contacts – Level 1: peers and supervisors, occasional external contacts. Work Environment Performance Environment – Level A: infrequent changes in environment. Physical Working Conditions – Level 2: occasional exposure to hazards, noise, temperature extremes. Experience, Education and Certifications Job related experience required. High School diploma or equivalent. Valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Commercial Driver’s License. School Bus Driver Certificate. Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate. Pre‑employment and annual testing: alcohol & drug test, DOT medical exam, DPS Physical Agility Test.
