Mental Health Therapist

Summary

In collaboration with patients/families, social workers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist II (MHT II) provides direct psychological, social, and practical care. Responsibilities include psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, behavioral interventions, care coordination, and support to address psychosocial barriers to discharge. The MHT II also provides patient/family education, crisis intervention, grief counseling, abuse reporting, and other interventions to support patient outcomes.

Essential Functions

• Independently diagnoses patients and completes diagnostic intakes in accordance with Joint Commission requirements.
• Conducts psychosocial assessments and develops plans of care for patients and families requiring intervention.
• Provides psychotherapy and psychosocial care for an assigned caseload.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and promote patient progress.
• Documents assessments, interventions, and progress clearly and timely in the medical record.
• Maintains referral resources and connects patients/families to appropriate community services.
• Assesses medication effectiveness and side effects; consults with physicians regarding medication concerns.
• Assists with resource referrals, capacity determinations, guardianships, adoptions, psychiatric referrals, abuse/neglect/IPV assessments, end-of-life planning, and charity care.
• Facilitates family meetings as needed.
• Uses Feedback Informed Care (FIT) in compliance with Joint Commission standards.
• Participates in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement efforts, committees, and on-call coverage as needed.
• May conduct home visits, mentor staff, supervise LGPCs if approved, and participate in academic activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree in Applied Psychology or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of community resources and the psychosocial impact of illness.
• Ability to work independently in a behavioral health or healthcare setting.
• Strong assessment, counseling, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to synthesize multiple information sources into a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment.
• Strong conflict resolution, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard office technology.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Licensure

• Valid LCPC required.

Salary Range: Minimum $34.11/hour - Maximum $56.34/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
