Marketing Communications Specialist

Marketing Communications Specialist Billion-dollar credit union serving nearly 80,000 members throughout California's Central Valley is looking to expand their team. Responsibilities Lead the development and governance of clear, consistent messaging across digital, print, social, PR, branch communications, and internal channels. Write and develop key communications ensuring content aligns with Valley First’s brand voice, values, and strategic priorities. Identify opportunities to strengthen messaging and storytelling across the organization. Ensure communications are accurate, compliant, audience‑appropriate, and impactful. Create and oversee written and visual content including product messaging, website content, e‑mail copy, social content, PR materials, executive communications, and internal communications. Proactively identify and develop stories that showcase member success, employee achievements, community impact, and organizational initiatives. Conduct interviews and gather information from internal and external stakeholders to uncover meaningful stories and translate them into compelling content. Develop and maintain an integrated editorial and communications calendar aligned with business initiatives and campaign timelines. Bring Valley First’s mission, values, and impact to life through authentic storytelling and audience‑centered content. Ensure all content reflects a consistent and engaging brand voice. Oversee PR strategy, including press releases, announcements, media coordination, and community storytelling. Develop stories and content that highlight Valley First’s community involvement, member impact, and organizational achievements. Support crisis communications and issues management in coordination with leadership and compliance. Help protect and strengthen organizational reputation through proactive and responsive communications. Oversee organic social media voice, content direction, and engagement standards. Create and curate content that reflects Valley First’s brand personality and highlights member, employee, and community stories. Identify opportunities to amplify organizational impact through social storytelling and engagement. Align social communications with broader marketing, brand, and communications priorities. Lead product messaging in partnership with Channel Marketing and business owners. Translate complex financial products and initiatives into clear, member‑friendly language. Create messaging that connects product features and benefits to meaningful member outcomes and experiences. Ensure product communications are accurate, compliant, and easy to understand. Lead internal communications strategy to support organizational alignment, change management, and employee engagement. Develop and oversee internal messaging for initiatives, updates, and leadership communications. Partner with HR and leadership to ensure consistent and timely information sharing across the organization. Partner closely with Channel Marketing, Marketing Operations, Compliance, HR, and Creative resources. Provide guidance and feedback to internal teams and external vendors to ensure message clarity and quality. Support the Director of Marketing with communications planning, frameworks, and special projects. Monitor performance of communications efforts and provide insight‑driven recommendations. Continuously evaluate effectiveness and refine messaging to improve clarity, engagement, and understanding. Education, Experience & Skills Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field (or equivalent experience). 7+ years of experience in marketing communications, corporate communications, content, or related roles. Experience in regulated or complex environments preferred (financial services a plus). Exceptional writing, storytelling, editing, and content development skills. Demonstrated ability to write in and maintain a consistent brand voice across multiple channels and audiences. Experience identifying, developing, and communicating impactful stories that drive engagement, strengthen reputation, and build brand awareness. Strong interviewing, relationship‑building, and information‑gathering skills. Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, compelling, audience‑friendly content. Strong strategic thinking, creativity, and editorial judgment. Experience developing content for digital, social, internal communications, executive communications, and public relations initiatives. Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across teams. Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision. Work Schedule & Pay Tier 10 position with a pay rate ranging from $32.00 to $42.00 per hour. The anticipated pay rate for new hires is between the low‑end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. The pay rates listed above are based upon the geographic location of our Administrative Offices in Modesto, CA using the greater Central Valley area for our pay range calculations. Full Time, typically 40 hours per week. Flexibility to occasionally work early or late hours, typically with advance notice. Additional Requirements Technical aptitude to understand complex programs and applications. Displays courtesy, tact, and diplomacy during personal contact with others inside and/or outside of the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Detail‑oriented, organized, accurate and ability to adapt to change. Excellent decision making and time management skills. Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to trouble‑shoot problems and research capabilities of current or proposed products. Physical Requirements Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; typing; viewing a computer screen and reading. Climb/descend stairs in an emergency situation. Operate routine office equipment including personal computers, copy machines, mobile and landline phones, calculator and others as needed. Maintain working on a computer for six to eight hours daily, on average. Work extended hours if required or requested by management. Regular, reliable and timely attendance. Working Conditions Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate‑controlled shared work area with minimal noise. Other Requirements Perform job functions independently, or with limited supervision, and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
