Medical Assistant/EMT, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine

We are one of the largest and most trusted providers of orthopedic care in New Hampshire, with practices in Somersworth, Lee and Portsmouth. We have been a leader in sports medicine for more than 40 years and are the official orthopedists and team physician group for the University of New Hampshire. The location for this role will primarily be in Somersworth; however, we may request cross coverage in Lee and Portsmouth when appropriate and as needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances.This role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment and prior patient care experience. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, motivated, and enjoys working as part of a large, dynamic team. There is an opportunity to work across multiple locations, with onboarding taking place mainly in the Somersworth location.The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.Does this position require Patient Care? YesEssential Functions-Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training. -Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record. -Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education. -Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach. -Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated. -Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates. -Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider. -Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred

Certified Medical Assistant - preferred

Experience
Direct MA experience or medical field work 0-1 year preferred

A strong foundation-whether through completion of a Medical Assistant course or diploma program, work as an EMT, or at least one year of handson professional experience-is highly valued. National MA certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT) is strongly preferred.

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant or EMT to work onsite Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Optional weekend shifts are also available for pick-up in our walk-in clinic!
