Principal Software Engineer

Amentum is seeking a Principal Software Lead to support software system engineering efforts for Naval projects at Dahlgren, VA. The role involves providing onsite supervision, leading a team of developers, and solving complex Digital Engineering challenges on DoW weapons and sensor systems. Responsibilities Communicating and interacting directly with customers and engineering personnel. Providing software and engineering solutions, and system development using Agile development principles. Performing analysis and problem‑solving techniques in support of professional scientific/engineering work. Working independently and with others within established teams and across organizations to meet established goals within schedule‑driven timelines. Minimum Requirements Computer Science or a math/physics/aerospace engineering background with a BS degree in one of those fields (degree may be substituted with applicable experience). 15+ years of experience. 3+ years of experience managing a DoW contract. 5+ years of supervising junior developer staff. 5+ years of experience with C++, Python, or Java. 5+ years of experience with Agile Development such as Scrum or LeSS (must have). 2+ years of experience with SAFe. Active SECRET U.S. Government Clearance (Citizenship required). Valid Real ID driver’s license and reliable transportation (driver required). Experience with Atalassian Suite, Jira/Confluence, Java EE, XML, Vue, Javascript, HTML, Selenium, Jest, and JUnit. Effective communication skills and ability to travel as required. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with toolsets such as CSS, Ajax, MSSQL, Selenium, Vaadin, Thymeleaf, Gradle, and Coldfusion. Compensation and Benefits US: $140,000 to $160,000 (range may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, experience, and market data).
