Animal Care Technician

Job Description: Job Tittle : Animal Care Technician Location: Fulton, MO Duration: 10 Months Work Schedule: 1st Shift, Full-time, 40 hours per week (8 hours per day), weekends required. Position Overview The Animal Care Technician will perform animal husbandry and healthcare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act/Regulations, NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching, and AAALAC accreditation standards. The role involves supporting scientific procedures, maintaining documentation, ensuring facility sanitation, and working under biosafety conditions in an animal research laboratory setting. Key Responsibilities Provide daily animal husbandry and care, including feeding, watering, and enrichment. Document and maintain records related to animal care, preventive medicine, USDA requirements, and study protocols. Perform cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms, pens, feeders, drinking systems, and equipment. Conduct daily health and welfare assessments, report abnormalities to the Site Veterinarian or Team Leader. Assist with scientific procedures and clinical R&D sample collection per study protocols. Carry out biosecurity functions such as water system sanitation, feed/fomite decontamination, and environmental sample collection. Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and safety standards. Qualifications Education : High School diploma or GED required. Experience : Minimum of 2 years in livestock handling, animal husbandry/healthcare, veterinary assistance, or scientific animal research. Certification : Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification preferred; must be willing to obtain within 12 months of employment. Skills : Effective verbal and written communication in English. Basic computer proficiency (email, word processing). Strong teamwork, systematic thinking, and sound judgment. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in varied environments (hot, cold, humid, noisy). Heavy lifting up to 70 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently. Must not have allergies to animals or feed dust. Clear vision (prescription eyewear permitted). Mental Requirements: Even temperament when working with animals. Results-oriented, cooperative, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage processes/projects and function effectively in team settings. Other Requirements: Reliable transportation. Willingness to work weekends. Commitment to compliance with USDA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
