Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (RCCF)

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (RCCF) – Rapid City, SD – Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Salary: $25.73 to $34.03 per hour, depending on experience. Department: Department of Corrections – Correctional Health – Rapid City Women's Prison Facility. Responsibilities Maintain accurate and timely documentation of offender medical records. Provide standardized patient education within established nursing guidelines. Transcribe shift‑change reports. Preserve confidentiality and protect patient privacy. Provide physical care and treatment, administer medications, collaborate on treatment plans, and implement infection‑control measures. Refer new arrivals to Clinical Services staff, conduct crisis intervention, interview and triage offenders, and provide instruction and orientation. Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures. Order and restock medications and supplies. Participate in restraining offenders when medically necessary. Observe and report the physical and emotional condition of offenders during sick call and emergencies. Promote safety and security of the clinical environment, including contraband control and counting of items. Operate clinical equipment as available. Report security or safety violations through written reports. Participate in training programs, including Basic Training Academy and Threat Pattern Recognition self‑defense course. Work any shift, weekends, or holidays as required. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing. Ability to treat patients effectively in a variety of settings. Ability to follow patient confidentiality standards. Ability to respond to emergency situations involving offenders and medical scenarios. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English. Excellent discernment and decision‑making skills. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts on a full‑time basis. Preferred Qualifications Intravenous certification. Experience in long‑term or acute care. Prior experience as an LPN in a correctional environment. Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a background investigation, urine drug screen, and other employment‑eligibility requirements. Required to carry Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray) if selected, with completion of Level1 exposure, written and practical self‑defense exam, and CPR to AHA guidelines. Required tuberculosis screening upon hire.
