Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification, or meet one of the alternate residency requirements detailed for the position. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements: Light lifting under 15 pounds, carrying under 15 pounds, ability to withstand physical and stress demands; no strenuous physical activity required. Duties Provide inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management of veterans with arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, syncope, and inherited channelopathies. Perform invasive EP procedures and oversee remote device monitoring and antiarrhythmic medication management. Supervise and mentor MUSC cardiology and EP fellows rotating through the VA, including hands‑on procedural training, case‑based instruction, and formal ACGME‑compliant evaluations. Participate in joint VA‑MUSC conferences, grand rounds, and didactic sessions. Engage in clinical research leveraging the VA patient population, with opportunities to collaborate with MUSC faculty on IRB‑approved studies, quality improvement initiatives, and peer‑reviewed publications. Perform and record history and physical examinations; enter progress notes in the computerized medical record; complete workload documentation in a timely manner. Provide medical care for acute and chronic conditions and preventive care for veterans. Order diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant; provide timely follow‑up on results and patient inquiries, including secure messages and other communications. Determine medical assessment, develop treatment plans according to accepted protocols, prescribe medications per approved formulary and federal/state law. Educate patients on medical conditions and recommended treatments, including nutritional counseling, smoking cessation, immunizations, and health screening.
