Claims Manager - Cyber

Job Title: Claims Manager - Cyber Division: Group Claims Location: United States Reports To: As per Beazley's organization chart Key Relationships: Group Claims Management Team, Claims Team Leaders (CTLs), Underwriting & Claims Operations (UCO), Underwriters, Ceded Reinsurance, clients, brokers, and key external vendors. Job Summary: An independent claims handler who will manage and oversee the end‑to‑end claims process for a wide variety of matters under Cyber policies. Supports Beazley's vision of being the highest performing sustainable specialty insurer through proactively managing claims, at an individual and portfolio level where required. Individual Claims Management Proactively manage and oversee a diverse portfolio of treaty reinsurance claims, including Cyber claims, from notification to closure, investing the necessary level of involvement depending on the claim’s nature, category, maturity, type, and quantum. Handle claims from first notice of loss through resolution, assessing severity, complexity, and direct financial loss to determine the appropriate level of involvement. Evaluate policy coverage in line with underwriting intent, draft clear coverage position letters, and communicate coverage determinations to brokers, insureds, and other stakeholders in accordance with Beazley's Claims Service Standards. Manage medium to high severity claims, including Category 2 and some Category 1 claims (value in excess of $250,000 or material coverage issues) and coverage litigation, excluding allegations of bad faith. Review individual claims regularly to ensure timely maintenance of records as required by Beazley's claims controls, standards, and regulatory minimums. Establish appropriate case reserves adhering to Beazley's authority protocols and reserving philosophy, using all available tools to demonstrate potential loss exposure. Develop, iterate, document, and execute claims strategies accounting for uncertainties, key decisions, outcomes, and estimated costs. Ensure claims management conforms to standardized processes and maintain accurate, updated files with proper documentation and data. Communicate material claims to Reinsurance and Finance as per applicable authority, controls, and procedures. Work with Reinsurance to effect claims recoveries. Understand and implement Beazley's Conduct Risk Policy. Contribute to continuous improvement within the claims function. Strategy and Business Planning Maintain awareness of the overall strategic objectives and business plans of the Beazley claims function to identify gaps or future opportunities for Claims Management. Working with Underwriters and Claims Team Understand marketing and underwriting strategies for the business area. Join client meetings to share Beazley's claims philosophy and address specific claims issues when requested. Provide input to underwriters regarding potential or existing insureds' claims experience. Identify issues and trends, consult stakeholders if required, and take appropriate corrective action. Identify wording issues and suggest policy wording improvements. Leverage networking opportunities to develop standardized underwriting policy and best practices. Work with Claims team members and underwriters to maximize business opportunities and profitability, including sharing market information and cross‑selling opportunities. Help produce presentations and marketing literature as required. Authority & Minimum Standards Observance Operate within approved claims authority at all times. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with relevant regulation, minimum claim handling standards, and Beazley's claims controls and protocols. Third Party Management Follow Beazley's procedures for selecting and retaining 3rd‑party professionals. Manage escalation of items from delegated partners as applicable. Conduct file reviews or audits as required, resolving identified issues. Provide proactive feedback regarding the claim actions undertaken by the Third‑Party Administrator (TPA). Propose strategies for future claims handling, review case reserve adequacy, and ensure the TPA focuses on claim finalization. Broker and Insured Relations Develop and maintain strong relations with key brokers and insureds. Promote Beazley's brand of excellence and professionalism in client service. Conflicts of Interest Adhere to Beazley's Conflicts of Interest policy, alert appropriate personnel to potential conflicts, and resolve them promptly. Immediately advise your Head or Group Head of Claims if any Beazley employee attempts undue influence on you or other team members in claim management. General Comply with Beazley procedures, policies, and regulations including the code of conduct, PRA and FCA Conduct. Undertake required training on Beazley's policies and procedures as delivered by line managers, Culture & People, assurance teams, or via e‑learning. Display business ethics that uphold the interests of all customers. Ensure all interactions with customers focus on delivering a fair outcome and the right products for their needs. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant responsibilities as outlined by line manager, Culture & People or assurance teams, including underwriting and claims security standards. Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, including committee or working group participation. Education and Qualifications College degree; J.D. preferred but not required. Three or more years of experience handling specialty insurance claims, preferably cyber, technology errors and omissions, privacy liability, media liability, or network security and incident response matters. Adjuster license(s) may be required; obtain within first 90 days if applicable. Skills and Abilities Analytical skills: problem solving, coverage analysis and writing, financial statement analysis, financial assessments of claims, data analysis, and decision‑making. Work management skills: time and workload management, self‑starter, planning, achievement orientation, productivity focus. Interpersonal skills: influence others, client and broker management, purposeful communication, flexibility, active listening. Knowledge and Experience Legal training or claims experience, including liability assessment and settlement negotiation. Functional expertise in claims management procedures, US markets (general and specialised), US legal and regulatory frameworks, and alternative dispute resolution methods.
