• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Experience reading telemetry strips
• Skills in chest tubes, trach care, PIV starts, and PCA pump management

Description:

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical/Telemetry. The unit includes 26 beds. Patient types and common diagnoses are general medicine, including diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory conditions, renal problems, wounds, dressing changes, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and lab draws. The patient ratio is typically 5-6 patients per RN and 8-9 patients per CNA. The role requires proficiency in managing medication drips such as Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin. Support within the department includes Certified Nursing Assistants who provide basic nursing care and assist the RN as needed, along with receptionists and charge nurses in modified assignments. Phlebotomy services are available for routine draws, while the RN is responsible for STAT draws. Respiratory Therapy, Clientist, and Intensivist services are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is centralized with strip sign-off required each shift. Technology and equipment in use include an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems. Unit-specific equipment includes vital sign monitors and lifts. Floating may occur to other units as needed. The unit culture focuses on patient-centered care, reliability, and strong teamwork.
