Data Entry Specialist, Food Service Suite (FSS) - Cornell Dining

As part of SCL, Cornell Dining is comprised of more than 30 on-campus eateries, including multiple all-access dining rooms, cafés, coffee shops, food courts, retail convenience stores, concession stands, a restaurant, and catering services. From crafting holiday-themed meals to chef surprises and dining room special events, the Cornell Dining team of more than 400 skilled culinarians and front-line associates and 600 student employees work hard every day to offer a variety of fresh and healthy food from all over the world. Reporting to the manager of Food Service Systems (FSS), the FSS Data Entry Specialist and will play an integral role in supporting Dining’s food service management system by ensuring it’s data integrity, availability and accuracy of information to facilitate it’s efficient use and success within multiple teams including Cornell Dining staff, the Culinary Wellness and Innovations Team as well as SCL Purchasing and Business Service Center partners. This role will be responsible for updating, collecting, organizing, and maintaining all elements of FSS data, including menu ingredients, recipes, units of measure, naming, ordering, waste reporting, and inventory recording, among other pieces of critical information. The accuracy of this data helps ensure the proper labeling of allergen and nutritional statements as well as assist with effective menu cost assumptions and forecasting/service line worksheet analysis. Additionally, this role will serve as a primary support outlet for dining front-line staff regarding FSS questions, discrepancies, and data interpretation, as well as be responsible for reviewing standards and procedures to ensure consistent practices that ensure database integrity.

A successful data specialist will:

• Possess excellent organizational skills with close attention to detail to ensure accuracy and integrity while managing multiple priorities and changing demands in a complex system.

• Regularly look to leverage technologies, including enhancements to FSS, and will look for opportunities to maximize efficiencies, including being flexible and receptive to new ideas and/or approaches.

• Provide exceptional customer service as well as demonstrate effective and positive communication to ensure everyday collaboration with a broad range of system users and many key partners that resolve any data issues

• Continually exhibit a positive attitude and look to build and leverage relationships internally and externally to accomplish organizational goals

• Demonstrate effective problem-solving, creativity, and sound judgment with general supervision

• Remain current with pertinent coding standards including HACCP, local, state, and Federal Food Safety standards, Kosher certifications, Halal requirements, and Dining-specific standards

Required Qualifications:

• Associate degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experiences

• A high level of knowledge of office support tools available on the desktop (e.g., word processing, e-mail, presentation software, and spreadsheets);

• Strong math skills, particularly converting weights and measures, determining cost yields, etc.

• Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.

Due to the nature of the role, this position must be available to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong culinary background with a working knowledge of a Food Service System; CBord's Food Service Suite is highly preferred

• Prior food service experience in an academic setting and/or experience using automated food management systems, Food Service Suite, Cornell Dining's Food Management Software, or other Food Management software is helpful

• Experience in recipe testing procedures with knowledge and understanding of recipe yields, handling and evaporative loss, production scaling and rounding methods, prep-cost and nutrient yields, etc...

• Current Allertrain and Food ServSafe certifications.
