Precision Sheet Metal Welder-Fabricator

Picture your day starting at 6:00 a.m. in a collaborative Portland West Side fabrication shop. You review drawings, confirm sub-components are present and undamaged, and line up your first project. You note the PO and work order, log your start time, and get to work—fitting, assembling, and welding retail displays, event structures, or a one-off prototype with clean, consistent seams. Between tasks, you coordinate with the shop foreman on timelines, jump over to help on the press brake when needed, and hand completed builds to QC for inspection and shipping. By 2:30 p.m., you’ve advanced your craft another step and contributed to a team that values your ideas and skills.

Role Highlights

• Compensation: Starting at $28/hour (higher rates considered for highly qualified candidates)
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
• Location: Portland Metro Area – West Side

What You’ll Build and Do

• Process staged components to spec using drawings, paperwork, and established quality standards.
• Record key details accurately: start/stop times, PO numbers, and work order information.
• Verify all sub-components are complete, free of damage, and ready for fabrication.
• Fit, assemble, and weld custom metal projects using standard fabrication methods and appropriate filler materials.
• Lay out, shear, and bend small parts (e.g., end caps, shelves, channels, brackets).
• Support adjacent operations as needed, including press brake, QC, and shipping.
• Deliver finished assemblies to QC for final inspection and shipment.
• Maintain clear, proactive communication with the shop foreman on status and timelines.

What You Bring

• Blueprints & Math: Confident reading shop construction drawings with minimal supervision; adept with tape measure and fractional math.
• Welding & Tools: Hands-on experience setting up and operating welding machines, selecting filler materials, and using common shop tools.
• Fabrication Mastery: Proven ability to efficiently fit, assemble, weld, and finish from drawings.
• Quality Standards (Class 2 Level Capabilities):
  • Produce flat seam welds with minimal defects, on schedule.
  • Assemble custom cabinets, canopy hoods, and irregular builds to shipping standards.
  • Apply the finish levels indicated on drawings with clarity and consistency.
• Materials Knowledge: Comfortable with various metals, finishes, and techniques—especially welding light gauge materials and finishing stainless steel.
• Teamwork: Strong communicator who contributes ideas during design/bid phases.
