This includes the delivery of evidence-based preventative care, chronic disease management, and addressing urgent care needs as indicated for our pediatric and adult patient population.General Statement of DutiesThe Podiatrist at WSMC is responsible for providing direct outpatient medical services to WSMC patients. S/he is responsible for rendering services that reflect current standards of medical care appropriate to the local medical community. S/he is responsible for coordination of care as appropriate, and for documentation as appropriate for continuity of care and risk management. S/he serves as a member of the health care team whose goals are described in the WSMC mission statement, and assumes responsibility as assigned for quality assurance/quality improvement efforts. S/he is responsible for diagnosing and treating medical conditions of the foot, ankle (if ankle licensed) and related structures including the tendons that insert into the foot and the nonsurgical treatment of the muscles and tendons of the leg.General Duties(This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)Obtain a relevant patient health and medical historyInitial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial statusConduct non-invasive preventive screening procedures based on age and historyPerform a physical examination based on age and historyUpdate and record changes in health statusIdentify medical and health risks and needsIdentify needs of the individual, family or community as a result of the evaluation of the collected dataFormulate the appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and clinical findingsDevelop and provide a relevant patient education planOrder and interpret appropriate diagnostic/laboratory testsPrescribe non-pharmacologic therapiesOrder and administer tests including bloodworkReview and interpret test resultsAdminister medicationsOperate medical equipmentRecommend further treatment options or future appointments if neededExplain risks versus benefits of any procedures recommended in accordance with consent protocolCollaborate with designated surgical facility as appropriate for continuity of care, scheduling and treatment planningPrescribe and/or administer pharmacologic agents in accordance with standardized proceduresDetermine the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of client care outcomesMake appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agenciesReassess and modify care plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goalsDeliver quality care while maintaining WSMC metrics pertaining to productivityParticipate in on-call assignmentsConsult with patients by telephone as appropriateAttend staff, departmental, and interdepartmental team meetings as assigned/applicable.Participate in risk management activitiesPosition requires:Ability to obtain license to practice medicine in the state of California.Preferred board eligible or board certified.Admitting/Consult privileges in a local hospital/medical center (preferred).Ability to provide high-quality, cost-effective health care to patients of all ages and genders, with a high degree of patient satisfaction.Ability to work effectively with co-staff members in cooperative decision-making.Ability to work effectively with staff members and patients from a variety of ethnic, political, and socioeconomic backgrounds.Willingness to work flexible hours if necessary.Ability to work independently to solve problems creatively and with initiative.Commitment to supporting the mission and principles of the WSMC.Document all pertinent information in patient's electronic medical record according to Western Sierra Medical Clinic's policies and ensure patient records are kept up to date including test results, immunizations, condition changes, etc.Uphold Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, applicable state, federal and local laws.Participate in Quality Improvement activities, includingInterdepartmental quality improvement team efforts; andContributing to overall efforts toward higher-quality, more cost-effective health care for patients and improved quality of work-life for staff membersCooperate and participate in peer review, health care risk management and compliance activitiesConsult with other healthcare professionals as needed33. Other duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsValid California license to practice as a Podiatrist with State Board of Podiatric Medicine.Current DEA.Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS).Desired ExperienceFamiliarity with an electronic practice management system.Computer literate (i.e. logging on to computer, usage of keyboard and mouse, familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).Ability to type 40 wpm
