The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County is seeking a Senior Public Health Nutritionist (SPHN). This position is located at 307 N. Michigan Ave. Plant City, FL 33566. The salary range is $51,792.00 - $63,000.00. The posting will close on 06/07/2026.

The Florida Department of Health is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

The Senior Public Health Nutritionist (SPHN) will be responsible for certifying clients, identifying nutrition risks, assigning food packages, providing breastfeeding education, support, and referrals, collecting anthropometric data, performing hemoglobin level assessments, developing nutrition care plans, providing WIC nutrition assessments and counseling, and performing other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include effective verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of local, state, and federal Women, Infants and Children Program policies and procedures, knowledge of current science and practice of food, nutrition and dietetics, ability to assess appropriate and effective feeding for women, infants and children, effectively counsel using the Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) techniques, knowledge of medical terminology, ability to use computer, digital scale, balance scale, stature board, Hemocue machine, copier, telephone, computer skills: thorough knowledge, skills and ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook, FL-WiSE, excellent customer service skills, maintains client confidentiality and effective working relationships, ability to lift and transfer all supplies required to perform job duties.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree or master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition per WIC Federal Regulation, CFR, Title 7, Part 246. This occupation requires that the incumbents meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 64B8-40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code. Valid State of Florida License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance is preferred.
