Psychologist (Part-Time)The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, supporting reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. DOC is seeking to recruit two (2) part time psychologists. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, selected candidates will perform professional work in the field of psychology, through clinical interviewing and/or through the selection, administration and interpretation of standard group and individual test of personality development and intellectual capacity. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:Evaluating individuals' (Uniform Employees) emotional and intellectual functioningMaintaining clinical records and files in accordance with SOAP standardsPreparing written reports of psychological findings for inclusion in clinical records and case files, etc.Consulting with psychiatrists, social workers, judges, and other relevant stakeholders regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and case disposition recommendationsParticipating in psychological and multidisciplinary staff conferencesPreparing case documentation and written summariesTestifying in court or other administrative proceedings when requiredPreferred SkillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to maintain professional objectivity and sound clinical judgmentStrong critical thinking and decision-making abilitiesAbility to work effectively in high pressure, fast-paced, and evolving environmentsDemonstrated analytical and problem-solving skillsExceptional attention to detailDemonstrated professional, discretion, and empathy when working with sensitive mattersProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and respond to time-sensitive matters
