Junior Environmental Scientist

Job Overview A Junior Environmental Scientist participates as a member of an emergency response team to conduct environmental sampling and data collection. The role involves research, investigation, and analysis to identify, abate, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards that affect the environment or public health. The successful candidate will apply scientific methodology for risk assessments and industrial hygiene applications to ensure client expectations are met. The position requires maintaining a response bag with company‑issued PPE and appropriate work clothing and will be subject to on‑call rotation for emergency response and frequent, extended travel. Compensation range: $40,000 to $45,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. Key Responsibilities Immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client’s request. Maintain, calibrate, and mobilize equipment appropriate for an emergency response. Gather and analyze samples from various sources of potential contamination. Perform monitoring and sampling activities according to prescribed methods. Compile, review, and summarize scientific/technical data and literature. Complete 40‑hour HAZWOPER training in accordance with 29CFR1910.120 within the first three weeks of hire. Obtain DISA & TWIC clearances within three months of hire. Complete all designated safety requirements within the first month of hire. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology, or related science. 1–3 years of related field experience may substitute for a degree. Advanced computer skills on a Windows‑based platform. Ability to learn various software and comply with administrative duties (time sheets/expense reports). Work independently with minimal supervision and respond promptly to supervisory communications. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure. Follow written and verbal directions. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Complete HAZWOPER certification. Obtain and maintain DISA clearance. Obtain TWIC clearance. Current driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport. Complete all job‑specific OSHA training and comply with OSHA requirements, including respirator use. Exhibit excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills with careful attention to detail. Show personal initiative and responsibility for assigned work. Work overtime and on weekends when required. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day, overhead lifting over 20 pounds, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and crawling. Long hours, overtime, and weekends as necessary. Frequent, unscheduled travel for extended periods. Work in an office when not deployed, and outdoors with exposure to hot and cold conditions, extreme weather, and uneven ground. May work shifts up to 24 hours and at altitudes above 5,000 feet. Work may involve land, sea, or air environments and potential physical and chemical hazards.
