About This Role

The Infant & Toddler Substitute supports the Lead Guide and Assistant Guide in creating a safe, nurturing, and prepared Montessori environment for infants and toddlers. The Substitute works collaboratively with the classroom team and helps maintain consistency in the daily rhythm and care of the community.

What You'll Do

• Support the Lead Guide and Assistant Guide with the daily care and supervision of infants and toddlers.
• Assist with children’s routines, including meals, diapering/toileting, rest, transitions, and outdoor time.
• Support a calm, respectful, and nurturing environment that reflects Montessori principles.
• Assist children with independence and self-care while following their individual developmental needs.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and prepared classroom environment.
• Follow classroom routines, safety procedures, and program policies.
• Observe and respond appropriately to children’s needs while maintaining close supervision.
• Support respectful communication and positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Assist the classroom team with maintaining appropriate records and completing other duties as directed by the Lead Guide or administration.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Requirements

• Experience working with infants and/or toddlers preferred.
• Understanding of or willingness to learn Montessori philosophy and practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a classroom team.
• Patient, nurturing, dependable, and responsive to the needs of young children.
• Ability to follow established classroom routines, safety procedures, and guidance from the Lead Guide.
• Ability to safely lift and carry infants and toddlers.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and move comfortably throughout the classroom and outdoor environment.
• Ability to respond quickly to children’s needs and maintain active supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working in a Montessori environment.
• Familiarity with Montessori principles and respectful caregiving practices.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Experience working with infants and toddlers in a childcare or early childhood education setting.
• Montessori training or coursework.
• Strong understanding of child development and responsive caregiving.
• Experience working as part of a collaborative teaching team.

About Our Montessori 0-3 Spanish Immersion Program at El Oso

Since 2015, our Montessori 0-3 program at El Oso has provided a nurturing and enriching environment where infants and toddlers can explore, learn, and grow through purposeful play and hands-on experiences. In our carefully designed spaces, children are encouraged to develop at their own pace, building independence, confidence, and a love of learning.

In addition to the Montessori approach, we offer a full Spanish immersion experience. From the earliest stages, children are exposed to Spanish in an engaging, natural, and joyful way. Through songs, stories, daily routines, and interactive activities, they begin to develop language skills and cultural awareness that will stay with them for life.
