Quality Inspector

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel - Project, 2377 Ferry Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455, USA Responsibilities Lifting: Frequently lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment, sometimes weighing up to 50lbs or more. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, multiple times an hour throughout a shift. Standing: Stand for long periods, often all day, while working on projects. Must be able to stand for 90% of an 8- to 12-hour shift. Climbing: Work involves climbing ladders, scaffolding, or stairs to reach different levels of a structure. Must be able to climb 30′ ladders and 60′ stairs. Must be able to wear a 30lb harness and tool bags and climb concrete form work and rebar. Bending and Kneeling: Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch to perform tasks, such as installing flooring or working in tight spaces. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and crawl for up to 30 minutes at a time, multiple times a day. Manual Dexterity: The position requires good hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate tools and equipment with precision. Must be able to use small hand tools while standing, bending at the waist, and kneeling throughout an 8- to 12-hour shift. Vision: Good vision to see clearly at varying distances and to read plans and other documents. Must be able to see while wearing safety glasses. Hearing: Good hearing to be aware of surroundings and to follow instructions. Must be able to wear hearing protection as needed. Working Conditions: Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work an entire shift (8–12 hours) in any of the aforementioned environments. Tools and Equipment: Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment, including power saws, drills, and other machinery. Must be able to use small hand and power tools at or below shoulder height while standing, bending at the waist, and kneeling. Tools will range from a few ounces to 35lbs and must be used throughout an 8–12-hour shift. Safety: Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to perform the aforementioned tasks while wearing a harness and/or tool bags weighing up to 30lbs for 90% of an 8–12-hour shift. Implement Inspection and Testing Plan, and Quality Plan Procedures required to build a quality project conforming to design, specification, relevant standards and codes. Essential Functions In coordination with field management and project schedule, plan and coordinate all required inspections and testing. Assist all third parties conducting on-site quality or technical review, audit, test or inspection of the work, materials or equipment. Prepare Weekly Quality Site Activity Report and Monthly Quality Summary Report. Review all test, inspection, site observation or surveillance reports, and record any deficiencies and non-conformities. Supervise Quality Control (QC) functions including internal inspection of work and completion of all related QC check sheets. Review current drawings, Design Change Notices (DCN), Supplemental Site Instructions (SSI), Requests for Information (RFI) and red-line drawings. Report any deficiencies in production of red-line mark-ups. Conduct regular site inspection of work compliance with IFC design drawings, project specifications, applicable standards and codes, as well as receiving and storage of materials inspections. Provide training, tools and techniques to enable field staff, suppliers and subcontractors to achieve required quality standards and ensure that inspections, tests and procedures are properly understood and carried out. Manage site document control and control of non-conforming product functions. Knowledge of Quality Control and Assurance Management Systems. Multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge across Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical fields as they relate to construction projects. Exceptional communication skills. The QA/QC Field Inspector supervises and coordinates all activities required at the project site to meet project quality objectives and deliver a quality product that exceeds client and owner expectations. Qualifications (condensed): Bachelor’s degree or Engineering Technologist Diploma preferred; 2+ years related experience preferred; ACI or Canadian equivalent certification required within six months of hire; experience or training in environmental regulatory and construction industry compliance preferred; developing understanding of construction quality standards and processes; strong organization and communication skills; willingness and ability to learn and grow in environmental monitoring, technical writing and documentation.
