Job Summary

A growing and established transportation and logistics company in Chattanooga, TN is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead financial operations and serve as a trusted partner to ownership and senior leadership. This direct hire CFO opportunity is ideal for a hands-on financial executive who can balance strategic guidance with close involvement in day-to-day accounting, reporting, cash flow, and operational financial decisions.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on profitability, financial controls, operational efficiency, and long-term growth. The CFO will work in a leadership-driven environment with direct access to decision-makers, strong visibility across the business, and the ability to influence key financial and operational strategies.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and internal financial controls.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for ownership and leadership.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, general ledger, cash flow, and working capital.
- Monitor revenue, expenses, margins, profitability, and financial performance to identify improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate tax preparation, audits, insurance, banking relationships, and outside accounting partnerships.
- Support financial decisions related to fleet operations, equipment purchases, financing, growth planning, and regulatory compliance.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $140,000 to $160,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire.
- Schedule: Full-time.
- Work arrangement: On-site in Chattanooga, TN.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Lead financial operations, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to ownership and senior leadership.
- Oversee accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, banking, general ledger, and controls.
- Support financial planning for fleet operations, equipment purchases, financing, and business growth.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Significant accounting and financial leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, profitability analysis, and financial controls.
- Experience establishing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ability to translate financial information into practical business recommendations.
- Comfortable working directly with ownership and senior leadership in a hands-on business environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion, accountability, and sound business judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working for a small to mid-sized privately held company.
- Trucking, transportation, logistics, fleet operations, or related industry experience.
- Prior experience supporting financial decisions related to equipment financing, fleet investments, and operational cost analysis.
- Hands-on CFO, Controller, or senior finance leadership experience in an owner-led or privately held business environment.
