Operations Manager

Position Summary Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervising the warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Planning of inbound and outbound volume, customer communication activities, space utilization and management, and equipment management. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, labor management planning, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Schedule: 1A 6:00 A – 6:30 P, Sun / Mon / Tues and every other Wed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ensures development of systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably, in accordance with company policies. Manages operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals, complying with client SLAs. Drives continuous improvement efforts and provides ideas and suggestions for more efficient operations and ongoing cost savings. Reaches all client‑specified KPI’s and complies with quality system requirements. Manages operations to achieve prescribed objectives, applying sound communication and motivational techniques. Collaborates with Human Resources to assist in hiring, training, and professional development programs. Delivers results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time. Effectively informs senior management and client representatives of critical issues affecting operations. Plans the daily work schedule by reviewing existing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions. Reviews current volume demands to plan for warehouse space reorganization and needed changes in supplies, equipment, or staffing. Ensures effective training is delivered to team members by qualified individuals and adheres to SOPs. Ensures leadership team assesses trainee progress to determine new hire performance and cultural fit. Maintains high motivation among team members to provide customer satisfaction. Provides ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members. Supports adherence to standard operating procedures. Conducts routine staff meetings to review daily and weekly work activities. Management Information Systems Ensures all team members are properly trained and efficient in the required information systems, including WMS, to meet company and client objectives. Ensures that necessary computer software and hardware are purchased in accordance with Corporate IT policies. Stays knowledgeable regarding changes in hardware and software technology. Develops proficiency in client systems. Customer Management Manages high‑level customer service standards for all functions. Assures that client accounts receive required operational and administrative support. Maintains appropriate contact with all functions and responds to requests when required. Attends or leads meetings with key customers to discuss any customer issues. Coordinates management of supplier/customer visits to the site. Promotes positive relationships with clients through excellent customer service. Budgeting and Financials Supports development of an annual operating budget. Manages a system of controls to ensure service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue, and profit parameters. Assists and supports budgeting and pricing activities in compliance with contract guidelines. Equipment and Facilities Manages existing programs for maintaining company standards of sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment, including MHE. Ensures team members are properly trained on any MHE. Stays informed of relevant new technology and makes recommendations as applicable. Safety Achieves company goals for injury frequency ratings and other safety metrics. Audits warehouse for compliance with safety, security, and quality principles. Ensures adherence to all statutory health and safety requirements. Other Duties Work overtime as dictated by business, whether mandatory or voluntary. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages warehouse operations supervisors and support staff. Skills and Abilities Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Bachelor’s degree preferred. 7 years of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment. 5 years of experience in a supervisory role. Ability to work in unregulated temperatures within the warehouse during the warmer and colder months, which can range from mild to moderate. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Demonstrated proficiency in applicable WMS systems. Language Skills Proficiency in business communication at all levels. Other Strong attention to detail and accuracy, accomplishing job tasks in a timely manner. Good organizational and personnel skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Good leadership, supervision, and planning skills. Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required. Participate in cross‑training metrics activities, improving knowledge in multiple areas or departments. Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fast‑paced, stimulating work environment. Core Competencies Problem Solving Physical Demands Occasionally, frequently, constantly: walking and standing; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; reaching above shoulder, reaching outward, squatting, kneeling. Work Environment Rarely exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level usually low to moderate. Compensation and Benefits Base pay range: $85,000 – $90,000. Actual compensation is determined by job‑related factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location. Benefits include medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible spending accounts (FSAs), health savings accounts (HSAs), short- and long-term disability coverage, wellness resources, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and a 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match.
