At Eagle House , our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Program (PRTF) serves youth whose emotional and behavioral health needs require intensive therapeutic support. As a Special Education Teacher , you will play a critical role in helping students achieve academic success while building the emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills they need to succeed both in and outside the classroom.

This is not a traditional teaching role. Here, education is integrated into each student's therapeutic treatment plan, and every lesson becomes an opportunity to support healing, growth, and long-term success.

What You'll Do

As a Special Education Teacher, you will:

• Provide direct instruction across academic subject areas.
• Develop and implement individualized educational programming aligned with student IEPs.
• Maintain familiarity with all educational records, assessments, and student goals.
• Draft IEP goals, progress reports, report cards, evaluations, and related documentation.
• Conduct educational intake assessments and ongoing academic evaluations.
• Collaborate closely with clinicians, residential staff, families, and community partners.
• Support transition and discharge planning to promote successful educational outcomes.
• Utilize trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching practices.
• Implement effective classroom behavior management strategies.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, supervision, and program planning sessions.
• Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive.

What We're Looking ForEducation & Certification

• Master's Degree in Special Education.
• Current Connecticut State Department of Education Special Education certification required.
• Candidates holding a Connecticut Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Experience & Qualifications

• Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.
• Strong understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on learning.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Commitment to culturally responsive and trauma-informed educational practices.
• Experience using educational technology, including SMART Boards, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic IEP systems.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and supportive in crisis and high-stress situations.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the role, including supervision of youth and participation in physical interventions when necessary.
