Join our Team and become the Future of Freight! About the Position The accountant is a skilled, knowledge-driven role with accounting experience and strong communication and analytical skills. The accountant will work closely with the Assistant Controller and other staff members to achieve business objectives through record-keeping and compliance activities, working within the broader accounting team to focus on timely and accurate reporting of financial results to executives, investors, and lenders. Responsibilities: Prepare supporting schedules and analysis to support external financial statement audit and tax preparation. Perform accounting functions including, but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliation, and month-end close. Assist in preparation of annual budget and periodic forecasts. Assist in responding to auditor requests. Prepare filing and payment of state corporate income taxes, sales & use tax, property tax, and other operating taxes. Organize and maintain various elements of company accounting for insurance programs: summary/analysis of premium accruals and audit exposures, monthly loss run reviews and determination of appropriate deductibles accruals. Develop understanding of various company insurance surcharge programs in effect and coordinate internal tracking and reporting of these programs to company executives. Assist in company efforts to transition revenue recognition procedures under ASC 606 and lease accounting procedures under ASC 842. Perform other ad-hoc projects related to technical accounting developments as needed at the request of the Assistant Controller. Participate in due diligence and integration work on acquisitions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an accounting or finance-related discipline. 1-3 years of progressive work experience, showing evidence of growth in responsibilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Sound fundamental knowledge of GAAP and general finance and budgeting principles Proficient in MS Office products with strong Excel skills Ability to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks/projects to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exceptional personal organizational skills Preferred Attributes/Accomplishments 2+ years of experience in public accounting performing assurance/audit services, or in corporate internal audit function. Working knowledge of revenue recognition standards ASC 606 and lease accounting compliance under ASC 842. Direct experience working with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Jet Reports.
