Principal Roadway Engineer

The Opportunity RS&H is currently seeking a Principal Roadway Engineer to join our team in the District 2 Corridor Program Office in Jacksonville, FL . This is an embedded position reporting to the office 5 days per week. As part of the Corridors Program Office team, you'll serve as a subject matter expert in delivering the largest and most complex projects in District 2, from RFQ development and marketing meetings through construction. This position will help lead procurement, plans development, and assist during construction. As a technical resource for the program, you will rely on a full understanding of standards and design processes and communicate that information to all parts of the project team and program. You will provide quality reviews with quick turnarounds and clearly communicate comments from the reviews back to the project team. You will actively participate in innovation meetings with designers and contractors, drive the scope and innovation of all projects, and coordinate plan reviews with engineers. Essential Functions: Serve as a technical resource for the program Maintain a comprehensive understanding of standards and design processes Provide efficient, high‑quality reviews with quick turnaround times Actively participate in innovation meetings with designers and contractors Help drive project scope, technical direction, and innovation across all projects Communicate with engineers and coordinate research and plan reviews To be successful in this role, you must: Have a degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and 15 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Be a professional engineer in good standing. Be knowledgeable of applicable federal, state and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances. Be proficient in production software and construction document production. Have proven background and ability to make decisions that have significant impact on an organization, as well as recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results. Be recognized as a thought leader in the industry and have experience leading the work of multiple disciplines and participating in and/or having decision‑making authority on technical matters within discipline. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance. Have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders.
