Grounds Assistant

Responsibilities Perform general yard work: mowing, trimming, weed removal, edging, snow removal, pruning, clean‑up, fertilizing, etc. Assist with lawn, shrub, flower bed, plant, and seasonal garden maintenance. Maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems, including repairs and adjustments. Keep walkways, driveways, outdoor furniture, and parking areas clear of debris daily (dust, dirt, leaves, snow) to ensure safe conditions. Assist with ground preparation and support of special events that take place at the residence, including other duties as assigned by the Estate Manager or Grounds & Landscaping Manager. Assist with tree removal and deadfall using a chainsaw as needed. Care for, maintain, and properly use power tools and other lawn equipment used on the grounds and in the residence. Follow safety procedures when using power tools and equipment. Perform exterior maintenance such as building window washing, cleaning eaves, pressure washing, cleaning lawn sculptures, and pond/stream maintenance. Assist with seasonal areas (patios, pool area, grilling areas, etc.). Wash, fuel, and detail family vehicles as needed; exercise safety when driving. Assist with holiday decorating, including hanging and removing outdoor Christmas lights. Assist with household duties such as changing light bulbs, emptying trash, cleaning garages and storage areas. Use good judgment when maintenance problems occur and report all repair issues to Grounds & Landscaping Manager. General Duties Assist other household staff (moving furniture, lifting heavy objects, cleaning, etc.) on a priority basis. Run errands, manage deliveries, and transport items as needed. Communicate openly with other staff. Assist with special projects as directed. What You'll Bring Landscaping/grounds experience required. Valid driver’s license required. Experience with lawn machinery and power tools preferred. Basic skill level in mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and other household maintenance trades. Responsible, flexible, dedicated, dependable person of highest integrity; neat and tidy appearance; organized and reliable; high level of attention to detail. Commitment to positively contributing to a happy home environment. Respect for privacy and confidentiality of the family. Essential Physical Demands Wear employer-provided safety equipment. Lift up to 40 (occasionally 80) pounds up to 6 feet; routine lifting up to 40 pounds. Stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and stand for prolonged periods. Operate small landscape maintenance machinery (trimmers, leaf blowers, hedge clippers, etc.). Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
