Secretarial/Clerical Substitutes

Applications are being taken for Secretarial/Clerical substitutes. Clerical testing is required. This position is on-call with no guarantee of hours and no benefits are offered. Secretarial/Clerical substitutes work when schools are open and will be called to work at all locations within Spokane Public Schools, so reliable transportation is important. Few, if any, substitute jobs are available during the summer months.

SALARY: $19.57811 per hour. Hours per day varies. On-call position with no guarantee of hours.

Responsibilities include answering phones, word processing, data entry, medication aide, dealing with emergency situations, helping administrators, staff, office managers, and other secretaries with secretarial or clerical needs. Flexibility and ability to deal with many situations going on at one time is required.

Qualifications include demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed, high school diploma or GED, some secretarial/clerical work experience, accurately type 40 words per minute, ability to work at cashier-type tasks, ability to prepare accurate statistical reports, ability to communicate orally and handle telephone inquiries, good basic office skills in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, demonstrated ability in use of Windows, WordPerfect or MS Word; spreadsheet programs experience preferred, previous experience working with various database programs helpful, demonstrated ability to work positively and efficiently with a diverse group of students, staff, and community in a confidential manner, relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

Work schedule is subject to change depending on program and district needs. Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.

School District Employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) public pension plan. Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension. Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b)-retirement plan through the district's plan manager, OMNI.
