Any combination of education and experience which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of a mechanical apprenticeship program. Three years varied experience as journeyman machinist or plant mechanic, maintaining and repairing facilities and equipment related to hydroelectric generating or pumping plant.

License Requirement:
Driver License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action. Possession and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) consecutive years. Under the direction of the Plant Mechanic Foreman, performs a variety of skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work on hydroelectric generating and pumping plant equipment; performs related work as required.

Examples of duties:

Work as a member of a crew engaged in mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and rebuilding of hydroelectric generating and pumping plant equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment. Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, overhead bridge and gantry cranes and perform rigging connected with maintenance. Overhaul and repair of turbines, generators, motors, pumps, compressors, filters, eductors, valves, pipes, penstocks and radial gate drive systems. Perform finish grinding and installation of turbine runners and seals. Design, fabricate and manufacture tools, jigs, and fixtures; fabricate parts from stock material. Operate precision lathes, milling, boring, radial arm, drill press, and grinding machines. Perform finish structural and pipe welding using MIG, TIG, acetylene and arc welders. Other duties as may be required.

Requires the Knowledge of:
Crane operations and rigging equipment to move or place heavy equipment in repair and installation work. Dismantling, assembly, overhaul and repair of hydroelectric plant machinery and related equipment. Performing repairs or maintenance using equipment such as hand or power tools, hydraulic presses or welding equipment. Interpreting blueprint, specifications or diagrams. Plumbing (copper, steel, SS, PVC, ABS, Victaulic, soldered, threaded, glued).

Must possess the Ability to:
Perform journey-level mechanical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of hydroelectric plant systems. Read and understand technical documents associated with mechanical equipment . Apply supervisorial skills for use in a lead position while supervising apprentices.Anticipate problems, develop new approaches and make innovative changes in work methods, techniques, and procedures . Precision align rotating machinery . Use precision measuring tools . Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships . Regularly and consistently meet attendance/punctuality requirements . Follow instructions, work independently and cooperatively with others .

Typical Physical Activities include, but are not limited to:
Works around or uses potentially hazardous material, requiring the use of specialized protective equipment. Travels frequently by automobile in conducting Authority business. Work in confined spaces in extreme temperatures and wet areas. Frequently climb, stoop, kneel and crouch; high level of repetitive motor function dexterity. Must be able to carry, push, pull, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Communicates orally with co-workers in face-to-face, one-to-one and group settings. Regularly uses trucks, cranes, fork lifts, and precision machine tools. Visual acuity must allow basic color distinction, shades of color differentials, and depth perception. Hearing within normal ranges. Regularly uses a telephone for communication. Uses office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, and Fax machines.

Environmental Factors include:
Exposure to the sun: 10% or less work time spent outside a building and exposed to the sun. Travels frequently by automobile in conducting Authority business, regularly uses trucks, cranes, fork lifts, and precision machine tools. Work in extreme temperatures and wet areas. Frequently reach, climb, stoop, kneel and crouch; high level of repetitive motor function dexterity. Must be able to carry, push, pull, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Work in confined spaces. Communicates orally with co-workers in face-to-face, one-to-one and group settings. BENEFITS Holidays : Employees receive eleven (11) paid holidays, including one (1) floating holiday.

Vacation & Medical Leave : Vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 80 hours per year up through year four 4. At year five (5), leave increases to 120 hours per year. At ten (10) years of service, vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 140 hours and at fifteen (15) years of service, vacation leave increases to a maximum of 160 hours per year.
Medical leave accrues at the rate of eight (8) hours per month.

Retirement Benefits :

• 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan: A 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan is funded by the Authority contributing equal to 8% of your gross base annual salary
• 401(a) Executive Plan: The 401(a) Executive Plan is a Defined Contribution Plan where the employee is required to contribute 5% of your gross base annual salary which is matched by the Water Authority
• 457 Deferred Compensation Plan: The 457 Deferred Compensation Plan is an optional voluntary plan, that employees can opt to contribute to. This plan offers a Roth option.
• Upon retirement, a Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Plan is available

The total combined contributions for the 401(a) and the 401(a) Executive plans by the Authority will amount to a maximum of 18% of your gross base annual salary. All contributions under both plans vest immediately to you.

NOTE: You should be aware that the Authority does not participate in Social Security. This may affect Social Security benefits upon retirement. Health Benefits :
