The Temple Health Sciences Campus is seeking an entrepreneurial, motivated and results-driven professional with proven experience in cultivating, securing and stewarding major and principal level gifts to join our high-achieving team as Sr. Director of Development (SDOD), Lewis Katz School of Medicine (School) at Temple University and working in conjunction with (Podiatry, Pharmacy and Dentistry) to help fundraise towards Temple University's upcoming capital campaign. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished major/principal gifts officer to lead and manage a team of frontline fundraisers and partner with School leadership, advancement colleagues and stakeholders across the School, University and Temple University Hospital (TUH) to fuel medical education, scientific research, patient care and service to the community with impactful philanthropy. * This position requires a background check for cash handling responsibilities. Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of progressively responsible higher education and/or healthcare fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing six to seven figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills and Abilities:
* Proven experience and success in strategizing and leading the solicitation of major and principal level gifts
* Knowledge of, and experience with, both the art and science of major gift fundraising
* Demonstrated ability to raise and close major and principal level gifts (including current use, endowed and estate gifts)
* Demonstrated track record of fundraising success in a fast-paced, large organizational structure
* Must possess the negotiation, interpersonal and networking skills necessary for building relationships with external and internal constituents
* Demonstrated success in collaborating with senior management, school leadership, clinicians, faculty and staff
* Proven ability to engage and interact effectively with diverse constituents and serve as a charismatic ambassador
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express information, including funding needs and giving opportunities
* Proven ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively, as appropriate
* Ability to make policy decisions when necessary, multi-task, set priorities, adapt to changes, meet deadlines and achieve goals
* Experience in talent development and performance management
* Commitment to professional development, learning, being mentored and mentoring others

* Capability with Microsoft 365, as well as Banner, FPM (Blackbaud), or similar CRM/fundraising databases

* Experience in an academic and/or medical advancement setting Essential Duties:
* In collaboration and partnership with the AVP, advancement colleagues, Dean and School leadership, strategize and set fundraising priorities to aggressively increase philanthropic giving opportunities to achieve agreed-upon goals and objectives for the Health Sciences Campus and campaign readiness
* Lead and manage donor and prospect activity for the School and Health Sciences Campus and translate current and emerging priorities into fundraising plans and goals
* Lead the creation and implementation of an annual major/principal fundraising and planned giving plan for the School and Health Sciences Campus, working closely with the alumni relations, communications, stewardship and events teams to meaningfully engage alumni and donors and ensure alignment with partnering program areas.
* Develop and lead overall fundraising programs for key clinical and research departments and programs
* Cultivate, solicit and close major ($50,000) and principal gifts ($1M ), with a focus on six-figures and above primarily from individuals and potentially from corporations and foundations
* Actively manage and advance a portfolio of 75-125 households, utilizing data to inform portfolio composition and prospect strategies
* Lead and manage frontline team and provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to achieve performance metrics and goals, develop plans for training and development and provide performance feedback
* Manage processes and procedures that support performance metrics: work with Prospect Research to guide portfolio assignments and track proposal activity; track, analyze and report on progress against goals
* Meet/exceed fundraising goals by adhering to designated metrics (donor meetings, proposals submitted and donations granted), annual goal of approximately $3M-$5M once onboarded.
* Utilize database to track and manage information, including timely and accurate documentation of meetings and conversations with donors, prospects and other constituents
* In collaboration with Associate Director of Stewardship, build individualized and robust stewardship plans to recognize donors for support and communicate impact to broader Temple Health community
* Assist with planning and staffing events, including reunion, annual Gala, scholarship celebration, clinical specialty receptions, etc.
* Remain current with major giving trends and best practices, and serve as a resource on effective major/principal and planned giving methods and techniques
* Prepare proposals, reports, and memos for leadership, internal partners, prospects and donors
* Serve as a professional, engaging and effective frontline representative of the School, TUH and University
* Collaborate with advancement colleagues across campus, schools and colleges to communicate and broaden the base of support for fundraising priorities at the School and TUH
* Represent the Health Sciences Campus and University committees, planning sessions and other internal meetings and events
* Performs other duties as assigned.
