Senior Designer

Proper Hospitality is a design-forward hospitality company operating a growing portfolio of properties under the Proper Hotels, By Proper, and The Collective brands, including Santa Monica Proper, Downtown LA Proper, San Francisco Proper, Austin Proper, Hotel June in West Los Angeles and Malibu, The Shelborne by Proper, and Lake Tahoe Proper Resort & Casino, alongside The Collective’s independent hotels including Avalon Beverly Hills, Avalon Palm Springs, Ingleside Estate, and The Culver Hotel.

We are seeking a Senior Designer to join our Los Angeles-based creative team.

Position Overview
This is a senior, hands-on design and art direction role for someone who can execute at a high level and bring a creative brief to life. Reporting to the Creative Director, this person owns design and art direction for a defined set of Proper properties and F&B concepts, building real brand fluency with those accounts, while contributing to high-visibility launches and campaigns across the broader portfolio. The Creative Director sets the brief, vision, and team direction; this role is responsible for executing and elevating that vision with precision and craft.

Day-to-day digital design execution (email, social, web) sits with the Digital Designer; this seat is focused on design, art direction, and photography for the portfolio’s most significant creative moments, and on producing polished, on brand work across a defined set of properties.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Art Direction

• Lead design and art direction for property and restaurant/hotel launches, campaigns, and other high-visibility creative projects across the Proper portfolio
• Remain hands-on in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva, producing polished, on-brand design work across print and digital formats
• Art direct photographers, stylists, and retouchers on launch shoots and campaigns; build and maintain a trusted vendor and talent network for the projects you run. Photography skills (shooting) are a plus
• Translate shoots and campaigns into cohesive editorial stories across social and web, selecting, sequencing, and framing assets to tell a complete brand narrative. Maintain Proper’s design standards across all delivered work

Creative Execution

• Take the Creative Director’s brief and execute it fully, from concept to delivery, with minimal hand-holding and strong creative instincts
• Support the Creative Director in sequencing priorities across concurrent projects; flag capacity and conflicts proactively
• Participate in team-wide creative check-ins led by the Creative Director

Collaboration

• Accept direct briefs from Marketing, F&B, and property teams, keeping the Creative Director in the loop on priorities and capacity
• Collaborate with photographers, stylists, and outside production partners on launch photography and campaign shoots
• Incorporate feedback quickly and thoughtfully from the Creative Director and cross-functional partners

Culture

• Champion the Proper culture, contributing to a positive, collaborative environment
• Stay current with design, photography, and hospitality/lifestyle trends, bringing an informed perspective to creative discussions

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in graphic design and art direction, with a portfolio that demonstrates both strong hands-on execution and creative leadership
• Demonstrated experience leading creative for launches, campaigns, or brand rollouts, ideally in a multi-property or multi-brand environment
• Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and Canva
• Experience art directing photographers, stylists, and production talent on set; existing vendor and talent relationships are a strong plus
• Strong understanding of typography, layout, and visual hierarchy
• Strong communication skills; comfortable taking direct briefs from cross-functional partners, receiving feedback, and managing multiple concurrent projects with clear ownership
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

• Motion or video editing (After Effects, Premiere, or similar)
• Experience with social and digital marketing campaigns
• Interest in or exposure to hospitality, travel, lifestyle, or fashion brands
• Photography skills (shooting), a meaningful plus for smaller activations and campaign moments

Salary

• $110,000-130,000
