Culinary Instructor

Skillette is a culinary school and gathering place in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., combining serious instruction with personal hospitality. We are seeking a cross-trained Chef Instructor to teach across culinary arts, bread and pastry in small, hands-on classes.

You will lead complete cohorts across the designated core curricula and contribute to extensions, masterclasses and events. Teaching assignments reflect demonstrated proficiency, with one lead retained throughout each cohort.

Responsibilities
• Own assigned series from the first class through the final module, preserving a consistent student experience.
• Teach selected culinary, knife, bread and pastry foundations after demonstrating competence in each assigned curriculum, with new curricula and modules to come in the future.
• Lead suitable postgraduate extensions and masterclasses, as well as student clubs, and work with specialists on topics outside the core team’s expertise.
• Plan and execute class preparation and mise en place, coach assistants, and share responsibility for food safety, equipment care, cleanup and closing.
• Carry out private-event production or chef-host duties when scheduled.
• Provide retail sales and customer service during dedicated Salon shifts: welcome guests, handle check-in and checkout, guide class and product selections, and maintain displays and stock.

Qualifications
• A culinary degree and at least five years of professional kitchen experience.
• Teaching experience is required, either through instruction and training in a professional kitchen or in a classroom.

Demonstrated ability across savory cooking, bread and pastry, with clear teaching, reliable organization and sound professional judgment. You will participate in cross-training and demonstrate readiness for each assigned curriculum; specialist topics require relevant expertise.

Schedule
Full-time, planned around 40 hours across five working days per week. Schedules include daytime, evening and weekend work, with cohort commitments agreed in advance. One instructor normally leads a series from start to finish; this can require consecutive weekends and occasional two-day modules. Weekend responsibility rotates between cohorts where feasible. Paid working time includes preparation, instruction, cleanup, planning and assigned support.

Compensation and benefits
Annual salary of $82,500. Eligibility for medical, dental and vision benefits under the plan terms. Ten paid vacation days annually, separate from paid holidays and sick or safe leave. Paid holidays follow Skillette’s employee holiday calendar. Major holidays are off, and Skillette is closed from December 25 through January 1. Vacation is coordinated around complete cohorts and published blackout dates.
