Head of Loan Review

We are partnering with a global financial institution seeking an experienced credit-risk leader to serve as Head of Loan Review for the Americas.

This individual will lead the independent review of the firm’s Americas loan portfolio, with responsibility for assessing credit risk ratings, underwriting quality, loan documentation, collateral management, problem credits, policy exceptions, and ongoing portfolio management practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and continuously enhance the Americas Loan Review function, including its policies, procedures, methodology, reporting standards, and credit-review templates.
• Develop and execute annual and multi-year Loan Review plans based on portfolio risk, regulatory requirements, emerging risks, and required coverage.
• Oversee independent reviews of individual borrowers and portfolios, including risk-rating accuracy, underwriting quality, documentation, collateral, policy compliance, and portfolio trends.
• Identify problem credits, documentation deficiencies, policy exceptions, and weaknesses in ongoing credit management, escalating material concerns to senior management.
• Produce formal Loan Review reports and present findings to senior risk leadership and governance committees.
• Maintain effective relationships with Credit Risk, Front Office, Legal, Operations, Internal Audit, senior management, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Build, manage, and develop the Loan Review team while maintaining the function’s independence and review quality.

Key Requirements

• 10–15+ years of banking and credit-risk experience, including significant loan-review, credit-analysis, and restructuring exposure.
• Experience leading or materially contributing to an independent Loan Review or Credit Review function.
• Strong understanding of credit-risk ratings, underwriting, loan documentation, collateral, problem-credit identification, and regulatory classification.
• Broad credit experience across areas such as commercial real estate, project finance, oil and gas, C&I lending, and large corporate lending.
• Experience developing risk-based review plans, presenting findings to senior management, and interacting with regulators or internal audit.
• Proven people-management skills and the ability to provide independent, credible challenge across senior stakeholders.
• MBA or CFA preferred; formal credit certification is advantageous.

The role requires a highly analytical and assertive credit professional who can form independent judgments, communicate findings clearly, and operate effectively under pressure.
