Primary Care Physician (2 Positions) (APPLY VIA SEARCH FIRM) Apply now Job no: 553840 Work type: Staff Location: San José Categories: Unit 1 - UAPD - Union of American Physicians/Dentists, Probationary, Health Professionals, Full Time San José State University is seeking a Primary Care Physician to join its Student Wellness Center (SWC), a comprehensive, integrated health center committed to supporting student health, well‑being, and academic success. Reporting to the Director of Health Services and receiving operational direction from the Lead Physician, the Primary Care Physician works independently to provide high‑quality outpatient medical care to a diverse student population. This position delivers a full range of primary medical services, including preventive care, diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, sexual and reproductive health services, and health education. The incumbent also collaborates with interdisciplinary clinical teams to ensure coordinated, student‑centered care in alignment with university and CSU policies. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive outpatient primary medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up for student patients Perform physical exams and office‑based procedures; order and interpret diagnostic tests Provide sexual and reproductive health services, including education, counseling, and medication abortion care Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records Collaborate with interdisciplinary clinical teams and refer patients to outside providers as appropriate Participate in meetings, accreditation activities, and quality improvement initiatives Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse, multicultural population in a university community Thorough understanding of general medicine, public health principles, and diagnostic clinical decision‑making, with the ability to provide treatment and medical counseling Demonstrated ability to efficiently prioritize patients’ problems based on urgency and demonstrate critical thinking to perform accurately in a detail‑oriented environment Ability and manual dexterity to perform patient care tasks, along with capacity to quickly assess emergency situations and take prompt action Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, as well as the ethics and standards of practicing medicine, enabling compliance with policies and procedures Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of state, federal, CSU and SJSU policies and procedures Ability to prepare comprehensive case histories and handle multiple work priorities effectively Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective correspondence Technical skills to work with medical records and scheduling software; aptitude in learning new software as applicable to position responsibilities Excellent customer service and public relations skills, facilitating effective communication across a variety of venues Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications Required Qualifications Graduation from a medical school and completion of one or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to the primary duties A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California Current board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) specialty or subspecialty appropriate for primary duties A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties Preferred Qualifications At least one year of clinical experience in a college health setting or similar environment At least one year of demonstrated proficiency in suturing and/or performing minor surgeries (those without anesthesia) At least one year of clinical experience including mental health/behavioral care competence Compensation and Benefits Classification: Physician – Primary Care Anticipated Hiring Range: $17,917/month – $22,084/month CSU Salary Range: $14,076/month – $23,906/month San José State University offers a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30‑35% of your base salary.
