About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC required; PALS preferred Must-Have: Previous travel experience (minimum of 2 assignments) Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room. This role requires working 7 PM to 7 AM every other weekend or every third weekend based on the needs of the unit. The Registered Nurse may need to float to the Medical-Surgical unit when there are no ER patients. The Medical-Surgical unit has been busy and appreciates someone willing to assist. Applicants must be able to learn the Electronic Medical Record system, as they use a smaller, less popular system. The Emergency Room operates at a Trauma Level CAH with 4 bays. There are 1-2 beds/trauma bays available, while room 3 is designated for pediatrics and well women/psych. Room 4 serves as the Fast Track area for urgent cases. Holds may be transferred to the Medical-Surgical unit for an extended stay, managed by an ER RN. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms. Security is provided by calling emergency services. On average, the Emergency Room treats 6-7 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4. In the event of more than 2 patients, EMS will assist with triaging. There are also a few paramedics available to support from triage to discharge. Common diagnoses include general emergency cases, urgent care situations, cardiac issues, and traumas from various accidents. Experience with critical care drips is beneficial. The Emergency Department is staffed with mid-level providers, supported by a physician available via phone. Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and secretarial staff are available for assistance. Respiratory therapy is present from 8 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays, with paramedics or physicians available for intubations. Registered Nurses are responsible for drawing labs, performing EKGs, and conducting ABGs. Scheduling is managed by the Director of Nursing through a digital platform, accommodating preferred days and block scheduling where possible. Weekend requirements consist of every other weekend, with flexibility for additional weekend days if necessary. Holiday requirements apply if holidays fall within the contract period. There is no on-call or standby requirement. The Registered Nurse is expected to wear dark-colored scrubs. Overall orientation includes initial HR engagement and shift training with a preceptor.
