Senior Property Accountant – Portfolio Lead

CooperDouglas is partnering with a well-established real estate organization to hire a Senior Property Accountant – Portfolio Lead. This role will oversee the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of 15+ properties while serving as the primary reviewer of work prepared by offshore accounting teams.

This is a highly visible role offering significant ownership over the month-end close and financial reporting process. The ideal candidate will bring strong property accounting experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal stakeholders and outsourced accounting partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of 15+ properties.
• Serve as the final reviewer of financial statements prepared by offshore accounting teams, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring all reporting deadlines are met.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reports for compliance with GAAP and company policies.
• Partner with Property Managers to resolve accounting issues, banking discrepancies, rent collection matters, and cash activity questions.
• Participate in quarterly financial review meetings, providing analysis, insights, and recommendations related to property performance.
• Support audit and tax review processes by preparing and reviewing schedules, workpapers, and required documentation.
• Review accounts payable activity to ensure proper coding, approvals, supporting documentation, and compliance with internal controls.
• Assist with annual budget preparation and financial planning activities.
• Review replacement reserve draw requests and residual receipt distributions for accuracy and completeness.
• Review intercompany transactions and corporate payment calculations.
• Maintain strong communication with offshore accounting teams, providing guidance, feedback, and support to ensure quality deliverables.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, and increase operational efficiency.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new team members as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, multifamily, or affordable housing environments.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience reviewing or overseeing work prepared by offshore or outsourced accounting teams is highly preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
• Ability to manage multiple properties, competing priorities, and strict reporting deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary up to $110,000 plus bonus.
