Job Title: Assembly Technician (1st Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling mechanical and electrical components in a small, clean job shop environment. You will read blueprints and production documents, use hand and power tools, and support fabrication activities to build custom products accurately and efficiently. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort working with tools and measuring equipment, and the ability to follow schematics and production instructions.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and production documents to assemble mechanical and electrical components accurately.
• Use hand tools and power tools to build products according to specifications and quality standards.
• Utilize a computer to track and update production orders, ensuring accurate documentation of work performed.
• Measure and mark steel using a tape measure to prepare materials for machine operations.
• Assist the fabrication department by operating drill presses, saws, and related equipment as needed.
• Perform mechanical assembly tasks, including fitting, fastening, and aligning parts to create completed units.
• Support electrical assembly by occasionally running wire and assisting with the electrical portion of the final product.
• Perform grinding and related fabrication tasks to prepare or finish components as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop policies and safety procedures.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production deadlines and resolve issues that arise during assembly.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and production documents.
• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Skilled in using a tape measure to accurately measure and mark steel and other materials.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly, including basic electrical wiring.
• Ability to support fabrication activities, including operating drill presses, saws, and performing grinding.
• Basic computer skills to track and update production orders.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, assembly, and documentation.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a custom assembly environment where products are built to unique specifications.
• Familiarity with reading and working from schematics for mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience in fabrication, including cutting, drilling, and preparing materials.
• Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical components in a single product.
• Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and technologies as the operation grows.

Work Environment

This position is based in a small, clean job shop local to Indianapolis. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, with regular use of hand tools, power tools, drill presses, saws, and grinding equipment. You will work on 1st shift, collaborating closely with fabrication and assembly teams. The facility emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and safety, and you will spend most of the day on the shop floor working with steel, mechanical assemblies, and electrical components while using computers to track production orders.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
