Principal Engineer

Salary: $174,051 - 273,775 per year Requirements:

• We expect you to bring 5+ years of experience building machine learning and AI infrastructure, platforms, or systems.
• You should have strong end-to-end ML lifecycle expertise, including data engineering, model serving, and monitoring.
• You need deep experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant, high-performance distributed systems for machine learning.
• You should have expert-level proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Familiarity with additional languages such as Go, Java, or Scala is an advantage.
• You should have strong experience with MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation for training, deployment, and monitoring of ML models.
• Experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure is a plus.
• Experience with distributed data processing tools such as Spark, Ray, or Dask is beneficial.
• You should be able to diagnose and resolve complex performance and optimization challenges in ML models and infrastructure.
• Experience with generative AI tools, including fine-tuning large language models and building retrieval-augmented generation systems, is a plus.

• We collaborate with teammates to solve complex problems from technical design through launch.
• We deliver advanced solutions used by other Atlassian teams and products to build AI features that reach millions of customers.
• We write code reviews, documentation, and bug fixes within a strong engineering culture.
• We partner across engineering teams on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects.
• We mentor junior team members.
• We work closely with product teams such as Jira and Confluence to solve their ML-related challenges.
• We help curate high-quality ML datasets and support the use of open-source or proprietary large language models.
• We lead projects from technical design through release and coordinate with internal stakeholders to deliver impact.
