Associate Electrical Engineer – Hardware Design and Analysis Company: The Boeing Company – Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS). Location: Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Overview Assists advanced optical system development by designing, testing, and maintaining embedded electro‑mechanical pointing and tracking control systems. Supports hardware, firmware, and software development for electro‑optical systems as part of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division’s Space Domain Awareness mission. Operates in a multidisciplinary team in a full‑time onsite role. Responsibilities Use and troubleshoot electronic circuitry with basic test devices (vernier, DMM, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, clock generators, signal generators, function generators). Gather requirements, develop designs, create schematics and layouts, implement, test, deploy, and maintain boards or systems in cooperation with customers. Create and maintain documentation for architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, hardware and digital designs, and system design. Provide electrical constraint information for PCB layout and support. Set up and configure test environments for embedded systems. Troubleshoot firmware and software issues at a basic level. Develop test procedures, document results, and verify that embedded system requirements are met. Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or an equivalent field. At least 2 years of PCB design experience. At least 1 year of programming experience in C or C++. At least 1 year of programming experience in Java or Python. Willingness to work variable shifts, including day, evening, night, and weekend. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance. Experience with schematic design, PCB layout, and fabrication packages using CAD tools such as OrCAD and PADS. Proficiency in AMD/Xilinx Vitis and Vivado IDE. Strong knowledge of electronics and circuit design. Experience creating and maintaining documentation including specifications, test plans, BOMs, ECOs, and manuals. Ability to troubleshoot and verify circuits using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, function generators, and multimeters. Experience with black‑box, white‑box, integration, system, and performance testing, and associated test documentation. Experience in performance analysis using MATLAB or Mathematica. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues. Security Clearance Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Shift Variable shift; 100% onsite at the Starfire Optical Range. Includes day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Pay and Benefits Salary range: $91,800 – $124,200, based on experience and qualifications.
