POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science to begin August 2027. The candidate should have a Ph.D. or master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field. A Ph.D. is preferred, but candidates with a Master’s degree and relevant professional or teaching experience are encouraged to apply.

Candidates in all areas of Computer Science are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching or scholarly interests include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, or other emerging areas of computing.

The beautiful campus of Benedictine College is situated in picturesque Atchison, KS on the bluffs above the Missouri River. Atchison is within an hour drive of major cities such as Kansas City, Saint Joseph, Lawrence, and Topeka as well as 40 minutes from the Kansas City International Airport. Benedictine College has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2200 students and is a mission-centered academic community. Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The primary responsibility of the position is undergraduate teaching in Computer Science. A typical teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, generally consisting of three to four courses. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses across the Computer Science curriculum according to their background and departmental needs. Possible areas include programming, data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, databases, software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and data science.

Candidates may have opportunities to develop courses in their areas of expertise and to help shape the future direction of the Computer Science program. The department is particularly interested in candidates who could contribute to the development of new curricular offerings in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, or another area of growing student and industry interest.

Preference will be given to candidates committed to excellent undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain appropriate scholarly or professional activity, with opportunities to involve undergraduate students in research and other scholarly or professional projects.

Additional responsibilities include advising students and service to the department, College, and broader community.

Education

A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science or closely related field or a Master’s degree in such a field with ample professional experience.

Experience
