This role supports major construction projects onsite in Boise, Idaho, with a primary focus on plumbing and mechanical scopes of work at a chip manufacturing plant. The Project Engineer provides comprehensive project management support to Project Managers through effective communication, negotiation, scheduling, cost tracking, document control, and profitability forecasting. The position collaborates closely with superintendents, forepersons, engineers, detailers, and leadership to deliver high‑quality, profitable projects while maintaining strong safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to support accurate project budgeting and profitability analysis.

• Assist in the buyout and procurement process for major equipment and subcontracts, ensuring timely and cost‑effective purchasing.

• Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials to maintain project schedules and avoid delays.

• Maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, work scope, and specifications of project contracts and subcontracts to ensure compliance.

• Maintain and control project documents in accordance with internal standards and contractual requirements.

• Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including preparation of integrated subcontract and contract project schedules.

• Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications related to mechanical and plumbing scopes to verify constructability and alignment with project requirements.

• Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including detailed drawing review, material takeoffs, procurement of materials, and development of man‑hour fabrication budgets.

• Ensure full compliance with the Safety Program at the jobsite and promote a strong safety culture among all project stakeholders.

• Demonstrate regular attendance and promptness to support consistent project execution and team coordination.

• Use software tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus to manage project communication, documentation, scheduling, and reporting.

• Develop a strong understanding of construction sequencing, particularly for mechanical, plumbing, and process piping scopes of work.

• Support the management of RFIs and change orders by helping to document, track, and communicate scope clarifications and changes.

• Contribute to estimation activities by assisting with quantity takeoffs, cost assessments, and pricing related to mechanical and plumbing systems.

• Coordinate closely with mechanical construction teams to ensure that HVAC, plumbing, and piping installations meet project specifications and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• Experience in project engineering within construction, preferably with mechanical construction, plumbing, HVAC, or process piping scopes.

• Understanding of construction management principles, including scheduling, cost tracking, and project coordination.

• Knowledge of RFIs and change orders, including the ability to read and understand project plans and specifications related to mechanical work.

• Ability to interpret contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications for mechanical and plumbing systems.

• Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word for communication, reporting, and documentation.

• Familiarity with Bluebeam and Procore or similar construction management and document control platforms.

• Understanding of mechanical construction, industrial construction, and scheduling practices.

• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems and their role in mechanical construction projects.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project managers, field supervision, engineers, and other stakeholders.

• Commitment to jobsite safety and adherence to established Safety Programs.

• Ability to maintain organized and compliant project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is desired.

• Previous construction field experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

• Experience with Bluebeam and Procore is highly preferred.

• Exposure to Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus, with on‑the‑job training available for many of these tools.

• Background in mechanical engineering or industrial construction is beneficial.

• Experience supporting estimation, change order management, and project controls on mechanical or plumbing projects.

• Interest in developing deeper expertise in construction sequencing for mechanical and plumbing scopes.

• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, close‑knit project environment and build strong working relationships across the organization.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite at a chip manufacturing plant in Boise, Idaho, working directly on an active construction jobsite. The role involves regular interaction with field supervision, trades personnel, engineers, and project leadership in a dynamic industrial environment. Work is performed primarily on the jobsite with frequent use of construction management software, digital collaboration tools, and standard office applications. The culture emphasizes collaboration, honesty, and respect, with a long‑standing focus on building a positive, close‑knit team environment. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/hr.
